Atomium Escalator: Travelling through hyperspace in the Belgian tourist attraction
Between September 2013 and January 2014 I assisted the National Trust’s Marketing & Communications team for the South West by creating original content for their online Advent Calendar.
This involved writing the content for each day’s window, creating videos to go inside the windows and collecting and taking images to be used in the calendar.
I was required to liaise with properties to gather information and arrange times when I would visit different places to film for the videos. One video in particular involved travelling all around the South West region to seven different properties, filming volunteers and staff singing ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’ around a piano (in most cases there was pianist available, where there wasn’t I hopped in to tinkle the ivories). I then edited the footage into one 30 second montage where each property sang a different line of the song.
I also travelled to Brownsea Island to create a short video about its winter wildlife.
One of my personal favourite contributions was also one of the shortest – a letter to Father Christmas for one of downloads, written as if it was from a Victorian brother and sister.
Once the content was complete it was sent to an external agency, RH Partners, to be inserted in the E-Advent Calendar microsite.
In addition to taking images for use in the E-Advent Calendar campaign I was also asked to collect images for use in future Christmas marketing campaigns by all regions, not just the South West. One image (above) I took of intern Fiona Savage was used in the South West’s regional Christmas card.
