Paul McCartney – 'My Valentine', his best song since The Beatles?

As a big Beatles fan who has been following, and retroactively collecting, McCartney's work post Fab Four split-up I'm always excited to hear any new song of his that comes close recreating the Beatles' magic.

Now surprisingly thanks to an album of covers which features only two self-penned compositions we have a new McCartney song that could be his best since the likes of 'Maybe I'm Amazed' and 'Live and Let Die', maybe even since 'Let it Be'. 'My Valentine' is that song and the recently released music video for it has instantly become one of my favourites.

Black and white = good, Johnny Depp = very good, Natalie Portman = woof! The sign language is a neat touch as well but has upset a few folks because it's not completely accurate. Seems some people can't grasp the fact it's a music video and not a lesson on how to do sign language.

I regret not rushing to buy 'Kisses on the Bottom' but made up for lost time after hearing 'My Valentine'. It's fun hearing McCartney doing classics such as 'It's Only A Paper Moon' and 'Ac-cent-tchu-ate the Positive' but it's this song that he penned himself that makes it really worth getting and is destined to become a timeless classic itself.
