Pixar - 25 Years of Animation (and awesomeness)

There were two awesome things I didn't realise last week; 1 – that Pixar has been making movies for 25 years and 2 – that there was an exhibition to celebrate this fact in Bonn, Germany (which had previously been in various other countries). As luck would have it I was in Germany visiting a friend last week, who lived close to Bonn, and who also liked Pixar films.

Photography was a no-no, and I didn't want to risk upsetting the stern looking guards, so had to settle with just a picture of myself in front of a life-size Mike and Sulley to remember the visit by (and the €30 guidebook).

The exhibition charts the development of each Pixar film from Toy Story to Brave and the shorts, through concept art and clay models. It offered a rare glimpse at some of the original artwork that helped bring Pixar's magic to the big screen, ranging from simple sketches to works of art in their own right.

Other cool stuff includes a Toy Story Zoeotrope (video below, looks better in real-life though) and movie theatre which took the audience on a trip through Pixar's film history via the medium of animated concept art.

Bonn is the last stop on the exhibition's world tour so unfortunately UK Pixar fans will miss out, though it would definitely be worth a budget plane ticket and a weekend in Bonn. It runs until January 2013.
