GIFs in a Jiffy with Instagiffer

I have a growing appreciation for well-executed animated GIFs as a form of content for sharing on the web – perfectly capturing moments in just a few frames. But until recently I never had an urge to create one, that was until after watching A Very Murray Christmas.

Following a tweet where I expressed what a chestnut-roasting piece of festive entertainment it was @NetflixUK was nice enough to respond, with the added bonus of an animated GIF from the hour-long special. I couldn't resist replying with a bad Murray-inspired pun and one of my favourite moments AVMC – Bill being the King of Christmas in more ways than one.

One search and one helpful forum post later and I'd found Instagiffer. A great piece of freeware not just because it does what it's supposed to with no frills and is easy to use, but because it was quick to download, simple to install, and didn't unwrap any damn malware on my system.

I haven't delved deep into its settings but if you want to create a gif from a video clip, even from a streaming site like Netflix, all you have to do is click the "Create GIF" button select the part of the screen you want to capture then click "Start".

It's easy, it's free, and it adds another fun form of content to add to your social media arsenal if it was GIFless before. Download it here.
